Important — read before making

DO NOT USE on natural stone — vinegar etches marble, granite, travertine, and limestone. DO NOT USE on waxed wood, cast iron, or aluminum. NEVER mix with bleach or hydrogen peroxide — combining vinegar with bleach releases toxic chlorine gas. Tea tree essential oil is toxic to cats and dogs — keep pets off freshly sprayed surfaces until fully dry, and skip this recipe entirely in homes with cats who lick surfaces. Avoid getting in eyes; wash hands after handling concentrated oil. Pregnant or nursing — confirm essential-oil exposure with your provider.

About this recipe

A 3-ingredient countertop spray for daily kitchen and bathroom cleaning. Strong on microbes, gentle on surfaces, no synthetics.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1 Pour the vinegar and water into a clean 16 oz glass or BPA-free plastic spray bottle.
  2. 2 Add the tea tree essential oil.
  3. 3 Cap and shake gently to combine.
  4. 4 Shake before each use (essential oils don't fully dissolve in water).
  5. 5 Spray onto countertops, stovetops, sinks, tile, or fixtures, and wipe with a clean cloth.

What you'll notice

  • Cuts grease and grime fast
  • Naturally disinfects without bleach
  • Safe around kids and pets once dry
  • Smells like a clean kitchen
  • Pennies per bottle instead of dollars

Tips & storage

Tip

For natural stone (marble, granite, quartz, travertine), substitute ¼ cup liquid castile soap for the vinegar — vinegar etches stone. For sealed stone or surfaces near electronics, substitute 1 cup 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol for the vinegar — disinfects on contact, evaporates clean.

Storage

Keep in the spray bottle in a cool, dark cabinet. Mixed solution keeps about 6 months — the tea tree's antimicrobial properties slowly degrade with light exposure. Use amber or opaque bottles to extend shelf life.
