Who should be cautious
For most people chicory is very safe as a food and beverage, but a few situations genuinely call for care:
- Pregnancy — this is chicory’s most important caution. Taken by mouth in large amounts, chicory is possibly unsafe during pregnancy because it may stimulate menstruation and has traditionally been associated with a risk of miscarriage.
