Astragalus: avoid during acute fever or active infection — it is for *building* immunity, not fighting acute illness. Caution with autoimmune conditions (astragalus stimulates immune response). Possible interaction with immunosuppressants and certain blood pressure medications.

About this recipe

A long-simmered immune-building broth in the Chinese-Ayurvedic crossover tradition — astragalus root, reishi, ginger, and a few culinary spices. Astragalus is the master *wei qi* (defensive immune) builder in Chinese medicine and a recognized adaptogen across systems. Drunk as a daily mug or used as a cooking base. Best as a tonic for the cold-and-flu season or during recovery from illness.

Classical Ayurvedic formula — adapted with respect for the original tradition.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1 Combine all ingredients in a pot. Bring to a boil.
  2. 2 Reduce to a low simmer and cook 90 minutes to 2 hours, partly covered.
  3. 3 Strain. Discard the woody slices (they don't soften — they've given their medicine).
  4. 4 Drink 1 cup at a time, warm. Or use as a base for soups and grain cooking.

What you'll notice

  • Builds immunity over weeks of daily sipping
  • Deep mineral support
  • Sippable mug while reading or working
  • Use as broth for cooking grains — stealth medicine
  • Best for cold-season prevention
