- 6 cups water

Method
- 1 Combine all ingredients in a pot. Bring to a boil.
- 2 Reduce to a low simmer and cook 90 minutes to 2 hours, partly covered.
- 3 Strain. Discard the woody slices (they don't soften — they've given their medicine).
- 4 Drink 1 cup at a time, warm. Or use as a base for soups and grain cooking.
