About this recipe

The classical Ayurvedic beauty-and-mood moonmilk — saffron strands bloomed into warm milk with cardamom and a touch of ghee. Saffron is the most expensive spice on earth for a reason: even a few threads color the milk gold and carry crocin, the carotenoid linked to mood elevation, complexion, and gentle sedation. Drunk before bed or during seasonal mood dips.

Classical Ayurvedic formula — adapted with respect for the original tradition.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1 Crush the saffron strands lightly between your fingers and add to the cold milk in a saucepan — letting them sit and bloom for 5 minutes deepens the color and extraction.
  2. 2 Warm milk over medium-low, not boiling.
  3. 3 Whisk in cardamom, nutmeg, and ghee.
  4. 4 Simmer 3-4 minutes.
  5. 5 Pour into mug, cool to warm, stir in honey.

What you'll notice

  • Brightens mood on darker days
  • Helps with gentle, beautiful sleep
  • Eases worrying thoughts at bedtime
  • Warm, golden, beautiful in the cup
  • Especially good in winter

Tips & storage

Tip

Use real saffron threads, not powdered (often adulterated). Iranian or Kashmiri saffron is the premium grade. The bloom step matters — pre-soaking deepens the active extraction significantly.

Storage

Best fresh.
