About this recipe

The *vata* version of daily abhyanga — warming, deeply penetrating, grounding for the dry/cold/light/anxious constitution. Sesame is the classical Ayurvedic base for vata; ashwagandha infusion deepens the nervous system effect. Best applied warm before showering, especially in cold or dry seasons.

Classical Ayurvedic formula — adapted with respect for the original tradition.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1 In a small saucepan, gently warm the sesame oil with the ashwagandha on lowest heat 30-45 minutes.
  2. 2 Cool fully off heat (about 30 min).
  3. 3 Strain through cheesecloth into a dark glass bottle.
  4. 4 Add the essential oils once at room temperature; cap and shake.
  5. 5 To use: warm 2-3 tbsp in your hands before applying, then massage onto skin starting at the scalp and working down. Sit 15-20 min before showering.

What you'll notice

  • Warms a cold, anxious, depleted body
  • Grounds a scattered nervous system
  • Daily oil practice for winter
  • Penetrates deep into joints
  • Best on dry, dehydrated skin

Tips & storage

Tip

Best in the morning before shower in cold/dry seasons. Build daily — the cumulative effect over weeks is the medicine. For very dry skin, add an extra tbsp of jojoba (CO005).

Storage

Dark glass; 6-9 months at room temp.
