Important — read before making

Brahmi can take 4-8 weeks for noticeable cognitive effects — build the practice patiently. Avoid in pregnancy (limited safety data). Cooling — kapha-heavy constitutions may not feel best on long-term daily use without warming co-ingestion. Allergy risk: dairy (clarified, lactose minimal but possible). Keep ghee covered to prevent oxidation.

About this recipe

Brahmi Ghrita is one of the most prescribed medicated ghees (ghrita) in Ayurveda — fat-soluble brain herbs infused into clarified butter. Take 1/2 tsp daily under the tongue or in warm milk before bed for cumulative effects on memory, focus, and nervous-system calming. Built classically with Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri); Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) can substitute or be combined.

Classical Ayurvedic formula — adapted with respect for the original tradition.

Ingredients

Method

  1. 1 Combine herbs with water in a small bowl, stir to a paste — sit 10 minutes.
  2. 2 Melt ghee in a saucepan over very low heat.
  3. 3 Stir in the herb paste; mixture will sputter as water cooks off.
  4. 4 Cook on lowest heat 20-30 min, stirring occasionally — the herbs will toast slightly and the ghee will turn green-gold and aromatic.
  5. 5 Strain through cheesecloth or fine-mesh into a clean jar. Press the spent herbs to extract all the ghee.
  6. 6 Cool fully before sealing.

What you'll notice

  • Sharpens memory and focus over weeks
  • Calms anxious thinking
  • Easy to take — 1/2 tsp on the tongue
  • Effects build slowly, last longer
  • Pairs well with study or contemplation

Tips & storage

Tip

Classical timing: 1/2 tsp on the tongue 30 minutes before studying or meditation. Or stir 1 tsp into warm milk at bedtime for sleep + memory consolidation. Effects build with daily use over weeks. Use as a finishing fat over rice or grain bowls if you don't want to take it neat.

Storage

Cool, dark, sealed; lasts 6 months at room temp, longer refrigerated.
