Golden Milk (Haldi Doodh)
This drink helps with inflammation, immunity, and sleep.
Turmeric thins blood mildly — those on anticoagulants should check with a provider. Avoid honey for children under 12 months. Heating honey above ~140°F destroys its enzymes and is considered ama-producing in classical Ayurveda — always add after cooling.
About this recipe
The classical Ayurvedic anti-inflammatory drink — turmeric simmered in warm milk with fat-soluble enhancers (ghee, black pepper). Curcumin is famously fat-soluble and poorly absorbed alone; ghee provides the lipid carrier and black pepper provides piperine, which increases curcumin bioavailability by an order of magnitude. Cardamom and ginger round out the digestion and warmth. Drunk before bed in classical practice — sleep, joints, and immunity in one cup.

Tips & storage
Best taken 30-60 min before bed. The black pepper is non-negotiable — without it most curcumin passes unabsorbed. For deeper sleep, add a tiny pinch of nutmeg (1/16 tsp). For kapha types, halve the ghee and use almond milk.
Best fresh; make to order.
